Avalanche danger & avalanche terrain

Tänndalen actively manages avalanche risks in avalanche-prone areas, including routes where skiers can move seamlessly between open lifts and descents, as well as in the Hamra Syd area.

Avalanche control work is primarily conducted using explosives. However, it can never be guaranteed with absolute certainty that these slopes are completely safe to ski on. We provide daily updates on the measures we have taken or plan to implement, along with a brief written assessment of the current conditions.

All skiing outside marked and groomed slopes is considered off-piste and is done at your own risk. Always follow signs and avalanche information. Anyone venturing into ungroomed terrain should have solid knowledge of assessing avalanche risks.

Always respect posted avalanche warnings and information, and ensure you have the necessary knowledge to venture beyond marked areas and assess avalanche risks. In terrain with slopes of 25-30 degrees or steeper, the risk of avalanches is always present, even if others have already skied in the area.

In areas beyond those accessible by gliding to and from an open lift or run, no avalanche control is conducted. Avalanche forecasts for these regions are provided by Naturvårdsverket.

Useful tips

- Always be searchable! Carry essential avalanche safety equipment, including a transceiver, RECCO reflector, probe, shovel, and avalanche airbag. Be trained in and regularly practice companion rescue techniques.

- Never go alone.

- Be mindful of others. You can trigger avalanches that affect other people. Never venture onto a steep slope if there are people below.

- Tracks don’t mean safety. Just because someone has skied the slope before doesn’t mean it’s safe.

- Report avalanche activity. If you observe or trigger an avalanche, always report it to the ski patrol or the nearest lift attendant.
