About the Big Bench Community Project
In 2010, former BMW chief designer Chris Bangle had a giant bench built in his studio in Alta Langa, Italy, where visitors could climb up and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view. Within a year, the bench became a beloved icon, attracting tourists from all over. Inspired by the success, Chris and his wife Catherine launched the Big Bench Community Project to promote local businesses, tourism, and craftsmanship. Today, there are 191 giant benches scattered across the globe, and one of them now sits proudly atop the mountain in Tänndalen. This unique bench offers stunning views of Svansjön, Vättafjället, Storvigeln, and other majestic peaks. Perched high on this massive bench, you’ll experience a truly unforgettable moment. As part of the Big Bench Community Project, you can carry a special passport that gets stamped whenever you visit one of the giant benches around the world. The bench was crafted by local artisans and is a perfect fit with Tänndalen's Fjällosophy, a philosophy that celebrates broadening horizons, playfulness, presence, friendship, respect, and love.
